A new look Town ladies team made an excellent start to the season against Leeds Vixens who were relegated from the Northen Premier Division at the end of last season. Vixens dominated the first 20 minutes of play with some nice possession football but without creating any clear cut chances. Town took control of the first half with two goals in 4 minutes, the first a break away goal from ex Wakefield Ladies player Debbie Hastings, who broke down the right wing and moved into the area to finish well. The second goal came from the hard working ex Sheffield Wednesday striker Laura Windle who's strong shot could not be kept out by the Vixens keeper. Town kept the game under control until half time. Vixens started the second half in the same determined mood as the first and Town's goal was breached on 52 minutes when Laura Carter in Town's goal was unable to stop a strong Vixens shot. Town were two goals clear again four minutes later when another ex Wednesday player Abbie Mullen struck a looping shot which lobbed over the Vixens keppers head, 3 - 1 Town. On 70 minutes Town went 4 - 1 up when a Hastings long pass was picked up by Emily Heckler who finished well. 4 minutes later the Vixens right winger latched onto a ball over the top to make is 2 - 4. With 6 minutes remaining Heckler was set up by Windle to head Town 5 - 2 ahead and make the game safe and a minute later Heckler challenged the keepers clearance which rebounded off her thigh and luckily ended up in the Vixens net, final score 6 - 2 Town. Abbie Mullen was named player of the match for a hard working display from central midfield but special mention should be made of Windle who never stopped running. An excellent all round team performance with no weak links.
