|HUDDERSFIELD TOWN LADIES FC UNDER 15'S||1|
Huddersfield Town ended their season losing 2-1 at home to Doncaster Belles
in a game played in constantly changing weather conditions.
Grange Moor delivered elements from all four seasons but could not stop two
good footballing teams from contributing to an absorbing end of season
Doncaster Belles played with determination and their success in the game
stemmed from a well organised defence marshalled by their captain and
sweeper. Town were limited to half chances at the Belles' goal in the first
half and had to rely on Laura Niemantis, Niamh O'Dea, Emily Morris, Bethany
Halligan and Emilia Samuels to keep Doncaster at bay until five minutes
before the break.
The Belles were dangerous from every set piece and they scored their first
goal from a free kick just outside the Town penalty box. Half time Town 0
Doncaster Belles 1.
The second half was a repeat of the first. Town had plenty of possession
and their was some fine build up play in midfield but Belles were organised
in defence and limited Town to long range efforts on goal.
Belles went two goals up after sixty minutes when they converted a corner
after another set piece that had a good delivery.
With hale and sleet blowing into the Town players' faces, followed by short
intervals of sunshine , the Huddersfield players fought to get back into
the game. There was a glimmer of hope for Town when Katie Lockwood, Town's
top scorer for the season, scored an outrageous 25 yard lob in injury time
but Doncaster held on to their lead.
Manager Laura Carter said after the match " Thanks for such a great season
to all players and parents, I know we haven't kept the title but everyone
of you has been fantastic and given it your all."
Manager Laura Carter, supported by Steve Thompson and Emily Heckler, has
guided the team superbly this season and it is clear that both the players
and their parents admire the management team's dedication and commitment.
Final score Town Ladies Under 15s 1 - Doncaster Belles 2.
